This is an experiential form of counseling in which horses are involved in the sessions. “Experiential” means that you will be involved in hands-on experiences with the horses exercising free will, designed to reflect things going on in your life. The counselor’s role in this process is to act as a consultant offering information, observations, ideas, and encouragement to assist you in addressing the issues about which you are seeking help. However, through this process, you are your own best asset. While the therapist may offer various types of counsel, they cannot do the actual work for you. This you must do for yourself. Usually, the more willing a client is to talk openly and honestly, complete homework assignments, and try new behaviors, the more successful the therapy progress.
